President Gwynne Shotwell has said the hardware will be roughly half the price of what it is now.
The price of the hardware required for Space X’s satellite broadband Starlink service will soon become significantly cheaper.
Currently, customers in the UK are required to pay £439 for the hardware (which includes a Starlink satellite dish and router), £54 in shipping costs as well as a monthly fee of £89 for the service.
The firm’s president Gwynne Shotwell has however announced that by the end of 2021, the equipment will “cost roughly half of what our current user terminals cost.”
She went on to explain that there’s also the potential for further reductions down the road. It’s not yet been confirmed how exactly this will translate to consumer pricing.
Despite the service still being in beta, Starlink has far shipped 100,00 units to customers across the US, the UK and the rest of Europe.
Starlink currently offers its customers average download speeds of 50Mbps to 150Mbps, unlimited usage, between 20ms to 40ms of latency and an average upload speed of 20Mbps.
